Who do we support ? |
Sheffield’s Green Bond will support projects and activities that can demonstrate a lasting and positive impact on Sheffield’s people and their environment. It will fund people’s wages, training, events and small items of equipment. It will not pay for larger pieces of equipment, property, machinery or vehicles.
The Green Bond funds three key areas:
1. Green Spaces
The Green Bond will generate money for the stewardship of these valuable green spaces through supporting local volunteers and ‘Friends of Park’ groups.
2. Waterways
Funds are required to increase accessibility to the waterways through supporting stewards and river clean ups, improving the safety and cleanliness of the waterways.
3. Young People and Environmental Education
The Green Bond is committed to supporting projects that engage young people in their local community - creating environmental stewards for tomorrow’s generation.

Sheffield’s Green Bond is proud to announce LEAF Community Allotment Project is to receive the inaugural Green Bond award for its commitment to the environment and local community. The £8000 award will be used to further develop the Herries Road site, including making it more child-friendly for its younger gardeners.
LEAF (Local Enterprise Around Food) has increased the number of people with the skills to grow their own healthy food and developed an attractive and productive green space for the whole community to enjoy. The site has become a unique resource for local residents, schools and community groups and there is a strong social element to the very popular activity sessions it currently runs throughout the week.
Diane Cocker, LEAF project manager said: “With our award from the Green Bond we can begin work transforming one of the plots into a child-friendly allotment, working with local children to develop and design it and then use it as a fun educational resource. We are also looking to improve infrastructure and develop orchard and wildlife areas to make the whole site a safe, accessible and productive food growing space to be enjoyed for years to come."
David Blunket, MP for Sheffield Brightside made the award on behalf of the Green Bond Trust at LEAF’s Annual General Meeting on February 21st.
The Right Reverend Jack Nicholls, Chair of the Trust said: “We are delighted to make this first award to LEAF as it is an inspiring example of a local community working together to develop a green space for everyone’s benefit.”
